My question involves criminal law for the state of: Ohio.
When I was pregnant with my now 7 month old son, his father used to hit me.
It started with slaps across the face. But one night (5 months pregnant) he punched me in my face so hard I was knocked to the ground, my eyebrow spilt open and was bleeding pretty heavily (still have the scar), that whole area turned black and my eye was completely swelled shut for almost three days and popped a blood vessel in my eye that turned half my eye red for well over a month. I had to take a leave of absence from work for bc my face was so messed up.
He told me that would never happen again as he was sorry. But the next argument he punched me in the side of my head so you couldn't see bruises and the slaps across the face still continued. He was also very mentally abusive where he would threaten my life and say that he was going to slit my throat.
I didn't call the police because I didn't want to be alone. I didn't want to have a baby alone. I always thought people where crazy for staying with abusive people. But it's so hard to leave.
After my son was born i realized that I can do this by myself and that's not fair for my child. I left about two months after.
But now that I came to my senses I want this motherfer to pay for what he did to me and the stress he put on my unborn child. He could of killed my baby. I still get nightmares and I feel mentally tormented everyday of my life.
But all I have is my word and a picture of my eye a week after it happened. Is that even enough to try to charge someone? At this point I feel like it would just be my word against his.
I was also told it's a felony to hit a pregnant woman. Is that true?
I just want closure and try to move on with my life
