My question involves a traffic ticket from the state of: New York
I was driving behind a slow moving, unmarked white bus. The bus was driving behind a garbage truck on a narrow two way street with a double yellow dividing line. The garbage truck motioned for us to pass him by crossing over the double yellow line, and when I passed the garbage truck I also proceeded to pass the bus. A civilian proceeded to follow me to my final destination, and aggressively informed me that I passed a school bus for handicapped children. The bus did not have any flashing lights or a stop sign, and could not be immediately identified as a school bus carrying disabled children. I did not obstruct traffic or endanger any civilians, as the road was relatively empty and I am a cautious driver. The civilian said he took down my plate number, are there any consequences that can come about if he reports me? If the bus had a camera, could this be used as evidence against me? Would I only be charged with passing a vehicle over a double yellow line, or would the charge be different because it was a school bus - even though it was not clearly marked as a school bus? Will a previous speeding ticket on my otherwise clean license from 17 months ago impact any charges? Could I turn this on the civilian and say he harassed me by following me to my final destination and yelling at me?
I feel like I'm being super neurotic and that nothing will actually come of this, but it's always good to have additional opinions.
