My question involves education law in the State of: Missouri
Hello, in April of this year, a local community college I have been attending made notice that they were cancelling the program I have been enrolled in for the last year n a half.....
I was pursuing an Associates Degree in Biomedical Technologies.....basically a 2-1/2year program (5 semesters) and I was near the end of my 3rd semester. No other school in the area offers a degree in that field, although one does offer a 1 year certificate with no General Education classes offered nor required......basically making the 30+ hours of GenEd studies I have paid for....obtaining a 3.9 gpa in the process worthless
I currently owe 16K in student loans and feel that these loans should be forgiven since I will no longer be attending that school due to the cancelling of the BioMed program.....any suggestions on where I should start my journey in pursuit of having these loans forgiven ? My rationality is if you are going to forgive loans to students affected by school closings like ITT, then you should also forgive the loans of students who have had their programs ended Supposedly due to budget cuts
I would add this.....while researching where to bring my concerns I realized that the advertised curriculum.....a curriculum that was advertised from January of 2015 thru April of this year.....only two classes were ever offered the whole time, these being part of the 30+ credit hours advertised specific to the BioMed program.....these were both introductory classes offered to and filled by predominately area high school kids through the colleges ATS program. The college received 3-4K per student, per semester for these high school kids so I believe there might be some Consumer Protection issues.....they advertised a program but never offered the classes required of that program. I believe the school did this just to make money off the high school kids who weren't expected to complete a 2.5 year AAS degree while in high school
Thanks for any suggestion!
